Origin Of Name:Named after the Pitchfork Ranch, the brand of which was a pitchfork. (WPA) Located on the Pitchfork Ranch. Another proposed name for the post office was Phelps. (Wyoming Post Offices)Pitchfork Post Office was established on February 20, 1914 with Pearl C. Newell as postmaster. It was discontinued on December 31, 1952 after which its mail was handled by the Meeteetse Post Office. Charles J. Belden was postmaster from December 9, 1915 until April, 1943. (Wyoming Post Offices) Postoffice in Park County, 30 miles south of Cody, the county seat and nearest railroad point, and 16 miles from Meeteetse, the nearest banking point.
