Origin Of Name:Town in Big Horn County, Wyoming. An Indian word meaning "much cascara." (Gannett, 1905) "Ishawooa was named by Capt. Belknap. He wanted something different, and took this Indian name. I do not know what it means. It isn't 'Ishawood' nor 'Ishawoa,' but is 'ISHAW-OOA.' (Rollinson, 1948)Ishawooa Post Office was established as Ishawood Post Office on April 19, 1895 in Big Horn County prior to the formation of Park County. Its name was changed to Ishawooa on January 6, 1902. Martin L. Jones was the postmaster. It was discontinued on July 15, 1944 and its mail then handled by the Cody Post Office.
