History:Percy Post Office was established on December 31, 1868 in Laramie County, Dakota Territory. Nathan Vandervoorts was the first postmaster. It was discontinued on January 2, 1878 but re-established on June 7, 1880. It was discontinued again on May 14, 1886 and established once more on January 8, 1887. It was discontinued for a final time on June 2, 1900 after which its mail was handled by the Carbon Post Office. (Wyoming Post Offices) Station on the Overland Route and Union Pacific Railroad. East of Percy the train enters a cut 65 feet deep and 1 1/2 miles long through beds of coal, carbonaceous shale, and sandstone. It is reported that the coal taken up here by the steam shovel was used in the engine and furnished the power for making the cut. (Guidebook of the Western United States) Old Percy is a place name for some old sheep corrals 8.8 km (5.5 mi) SE of Hanna. (Decisions, 1974)
